MISSION

Who We Are and What We Do

Our mission is to be a Christ-centered, God-glorifying community of believers. We purpose to glorify God through the faithful proclamation of the gospel with a view towards biblical conversion and comprehensive discipleship, and to edify and encourage the people of God.

We are an independent Reformed congregation – we recognize, rejoice in, and rest on the absolute sovereignty of God

(Psalm 115:3; Isaiah 46:9-10; Ephesians 1:11-12)

We embrace the basic theological principles of the Protestant Reformation, summarized in what has been called the “5 Solas” (alone)

Our goal is to be true to the unchanging mission of the Church

  • Make disciples through the proclamation of the gospel (Matthew 28:18-20)
  • Provide spiritual care and nurturing by equipping God’s people through sound teaching that brings deeper understanding, leading to greater transformation, demonstrated in ever-increasing obedience and love for God and others (Acts 2:42-47)
  • Rightly administer the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Matthew 28:19; Luke 22:14-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
  • Provide for the physical needs of the poor/needy among us (Acts 6:1-2; Galatians 6:9-10)
  • Encourage the generous use of particular gifts which God has blessed individuals (Romans 12:3-8; 1 Peter 4:10-11)
  • To deal charitably and generously with one another, realizing that as Christians, we are simply sinners saved by the grace of God (John 13:34-35; Ephesians 2:8-9)

The Mission of Redeemer Church of South Hills

At Redeemer Church of South Hills, the means by which we pursue to the glory of God is to be Christ-centered in all that we do. Our mission is to be a Christ-centered, God-glorifying community of believers. We purpose to glorify God through the faithful proclamation of the gospel with a view towards biblical conversion and comprehensive discipleship, and to edify and encourage the people of God.

WHAT IS A DISCIPLE?

A disciple is a person who has been reconciled into relationship with God through new birth by trust in the gospel and is subsequently growing in a love for God and love for others.

WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?

The gospel is the historical narrative of the triune God orchestrating the reconciliation and redemption of a broken creation and fallen creatures, from Satan, sin and its effects to the Father and each other through the life, death, resurrection and future return of the substitutionary Son by the power of the Spirit for God’s glory and the Church’s joy.

WHY CHRIST-CENTERED?

A Christ-centered life is one that is focused upon a commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord. At the core of every human decision is a motivation. Some people are motivated by the quest for pleasure or money. Some center their entire lives on a goal, a job, or even their families. These things are not wrong in themselves; however, that which we center our lives on can become our god.
